MUSIC EDITING

In the early days of music, written editorial markings were not always used, mainly because the composer was often his or her own conductor. They had the luxury of being able to verbally instruct the musicians in how the work should be performed, sometimes in the middle of a performance.
Today, the use of editorial markings in music has become fairly standardized. Markings such as mf, pp, rit., and accel. are the visual cues that instruct the performer how to interpret a musical work:  how loud, how soft, how slow, how fast.
However, having the proper editorial markings in musical work is not enough. The placement of these markings is also important, so the performers can see not only how much to give, but when to give it. Often, poor editing is responsible for a poor performance.
At Desktop Music Service, we have over 20 years of experience in editing music. If you are unsure where to place the editorial marks in a manuscript we are typesetting for you, or you just want a second opinion on a manuscript you have already had prepared elsewhere, our editorial services are available at the cost of $25 per hour (with a one hour minimum charge). Any suggested changes will be cleared through you before they are inserted into your manuscript.
